Peter Ashby trained as a doctor at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, qualifying in 1974 with an M.B. Ch.B. He continued his general surgical training in Capetown, South Africa, at the Groote Schuur Hospital. In 1982, Peter Ashby was awarded his FRCS by the Royal College of Surgeons, London.

During his training, Peter Ashby became acutely aware that people can be as affected by their appearance as they can by physical illness, and it was this realisation that led him to specialise in plastic surgery.

His training within the field of plastic surgery totals almost seven years, taking place in units at the Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge, the North of England, and the Roehampton Plastic Surgery & Burns Unit in London. He is listed on the Specialist Register as a Plastic Surgeon.

Peter Ashby regularly teaches cosmetic plastic surgery to trainee plastic surgeons. To ensure he is fully up to date and educated on new medical practices, techniques and treatments, Peter Ashby regularly attends courses, workshops and conferences in the UK, USA, Europe and Australia.
